A New Cabin

Well, it has been 10 years living out here. I really enjoyed the cabin I made out of a 12×16 shed that was already here. But it was never quite what I wanted. For those who would like to see the conversion of the shed to a cabin, start here 10 years ago. A lot of work.

I wanted to build a complete cabin myself, “With these two hands”.

About a month ago I decided to build a workshop on my 12×20 deck. Just a 10×12 building. As I was drawing up the plans, I realized I could just build a new cabin on the deck and use the old cabin as a workshop and shed. I have only been using about 8′ x 11′ area in the old cabin for living space anyway. The rest was storage. Plus the old cabin is too tall and harder to heat. The peak of it’s roof is 12 feet.

So if I build a tiny cabin with 10′ x 10.5′ inside living space that is 100+ sq ft. More than the 88 sq ft I have in the old cabin. And if I build it only 8 ft high at the peak, it will be cozy and easier to heat.

And using the old 12 x 16 place as storage I will not need to store hardly anything in the new cabin.

So I started building it several weeks ago. Here I’ll post some photos of where I am so far. I’ll add descriptions later.
